Japan’s MOL charters LPG carrier duo to TotalEnergies

Japan’s MOL

Japan’s shipping firm MOL said on Thursday it has signed a charter deal for two 88,000-cbm LPG carriers with French energy giant TotalEnergies.

MOL did not provide any details regarding the charter deal its unit MOL Energia haa signed with TotalEnergies.

The LPG dual-fuel vessels will be built by South Korea’s Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries and are scheduled for delivery in 2026, according to MOL.

In addition, the specifications allow for the transport of ammonia as well as LPG.

The vessels will be 230 meters long and 32.25 meters wide.

MOL said it has built a strong relationship with TotalEnergies in many fields, including the transport of marine fuel oil and long-term charter contracts for LNG carriers and LNG bunkering vessels.

The company said it will build an even stronger partnership with TotalEnergies through the conclusion of this charter contract.

MOL has a huge fleet of liquefied gas carriers.

As of March 30 this year, MOL’s fleet included 20 LPG/ammonia ships, 97 LNG carriers, 6 ethane vessels, 3 LNG bunkering vessels, 1 LNG powership, and 5 FSUs/FSRUs.

MOL expects its huge fleet of LNG carriers to increase to 104 vessels by March 31, 2025, while it expects its fleet of LPG/ammonia ships to increase to 21 ships.
