Seatrium and Cochin Shipyard form jackup rigs tie-up

Seatrium

Singapore shipyard group Seatrium has joined forces with Indian builder Cochin Shipyard in the offshore sector.

The two yards have entered into a memorandum of understanding on the supply and design of equipment for jackup drilling rigs.

The tie-up aims to capitalise on opportunities for mobile offshore drilling units (MODUs) specifically designed to meet the needs of the Indian market, the shipyard said.

Seatrium is well-known for building and repairing jackups for various operators, while the state-owned and largest shipbuilding and ship repair yard in India has been expanding its offshore portfolio, particularly with orders in the service operations vessel (SOV) segment.

The Singapore yard formed out of a merger of Sembcorp Marine and Keppel Offshore said Monday the collaboration with Cochin represents a significant milestone in its commitment to advancing India’s offshore energy industry “with innovative, reliable, and efficient solutions”.
