GAIL awards contract for large Green Hydrogen project

The project would be installed in line with the National Hydrogen Mission at GAIL’s Vijaipur Complex, in Guna District of Madhya Pradesh, and would be based on renewable power.

New Delhi: State-ownednatural gasutilityGAIL(India) Ltd announced it has awarded a contract to set up one of the largestProton Exchange Membrane(PEM) basedGreen Hydrogen Electrolysersin India.

The project would be installed in line with the National Hydrogen Mission at GAIL‘s Vijaipur Complex, in Guna District of Madhya Pradesh, and would be based on renewable power.

“The Project has been designed to produce around 4.3 Metric Tons of Hydrogen per day (around 10 MW capacity) with a purity of about 99.999 Volume per centage. It is scheduled to be commissioned by November 2023,” the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) said in a statement.

It added in line with the vision ofAtmanirbhar Bharat, the project has been awarded to a vendor having domestic value addition of more than 50 per cent.

GAIL had in January commenced a project to mix Hydrogen into the Natural Gas system and has so far been successful in blending upto 2 per cent Hydrogen in natural gas in the City Gas Distribution (CGD) network.

Hydrogen-blended natural gas is being supplied to Avantika Gas Limited (AGL) — a JV between GAIL and HPCL — which is a CGD company operating in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
