In the Energy Crisis, what role can ESG play in the solution?

The ENB podcast had an all-star lineup with Kat Galloway, CEO, Artemis Energy, Tracy Woods, VP, American Association of Blacks in Energy, and Andrew Parker, Ph.D., Director of ESG & GM at SPL. All are energy experts with a passion for the energy markets and a greater passion for ESG.

Our team has a wide range of experiences in the energy markets that cover the entire topics in the Environmental, Social, and Governance. Tracy started off the conversations and reminded us that the disproportionately impacted communities are on the front line and struggle to pay their power bills even when the costs are lower. Another great point that he brought up was the energy transition will take the new forms of renewables like hydrogen as energy tech gets better.

Kat Galloway’s first point was a great follow-up with her work on the Bitcoin mining work that her team is working on. By taking wasted methane from oil and gas production and turning it into power to be used for Bitcoin mining keeps that from taking away from the energy needed for homes and businesses. This not only helps the environment but also helps keep the cost down in the overall picture.

And when Andrew stepped up, he was very vocal about the energy policy decisions that actually are counterproductive against the environment and energy costs to the consumers. Some examples we talked about were the hypocrisy in California as being the most renewable-focused state and using the most oil from the Amazon rain forest in the world. We also can’t access the natural gas locally in the east because of pipeline permits, but yet we can offload Russian LNG to meet the energy demand. Both China and Russia do not adhere to ESG practices, so why are we buying energy from those countries.

I would like to truly thank the members of the panel for their time, expertise, and passion for ESG. Energy leaders that have the passion can make a difference in the Environment, Social, and Governance aspects of the energy marketplace. Please reach out to any and all of the panelists to see how they can be of assistance in your ESG needs.
