Apart from this, he also spoke about the LED light scheme.
“In 2014, when our government came into power, LED bulbs were priced at Rs 300-400. We increased the production and as a result the cost dropped by 70-80 per cent,” said Modi.
The UJALA scheme saved 48,000 million Kwh of energy, and about Rs 20,000 crore in electricity bills along with reducing 4 crore tonne of carbon emissions per year, Modi said in his speech.
He added that about 1.5 crore conventional street lights have been converted into LED street lights, which in turn saved Rs 6,000 crore in power bills by gram panchayats, etc, and reduced about 25 lakh tonne carbon emissions.
The prime minister said more research and work should be done on the use of micro-hydel projects to increase power generation.
