Twitter is going to revamp how it verifies users, according to a new tweet by Elon Musk. In the tweet, Musk said, “Whole verification process is being revamped right now.”

Technology newsletter Platformer was reporting on Sunday that in a first step toward further monetization, Twitter will charge users for the blue verification check mark next to their names, verifying the identify of the account holder.

Users would be offered the option of subscribing to a service called Twitter Blue which would cost $4.99 per month, or they would lose their verification badges.

The report noted the new CEO had not yet issued a final decision, and the idea could still be scrapped, however the report said its sources felt it likely that verification would be issued as a part of Twitter Blue.

In another report in The Verge, it was noted that Twitter is examining increasing the subscription fee for Twitter Blue from $4.99 per month to $19.99 per month, according to internal messages seen by their reporters.

Launched last June, Twitter Blue was the service’s first monthly subscription service, offering “exclusive access to premium features” including the option to edit tweets.

After Musk held a Twitter poll asking users if they wanted an edit button earlier this month, and 70% of users said yes, the feature to edit tweets was made available to all users.

In another development, Musk tweeted that a review of Twitter records has revealed relevant messages from a Twitter employee which supported his argument in his lawsuit with Twitter, and which were concealed from the judge by the company. Musk ended his Tweet telling readers to stay tuned, and there would be more to come.
