Secondhand prices remain firm with tankers showing strong growth

Crude
Dry CargoTankers

This week’s broking reports show that prices continue to be firm despite a slowdown in sales.

The Japanese-owned cape, Cape Keystone, a 2011 vessel delivered from Hyundai Heavy in Korea, has been sold for $32.5m. The last comparable sale is from early May. Then Danish mammoth Norden was reported selling the same-aged Nord Ferrum, a 180,000 dwt workhorse built by Hyundai Heavy Industries for $34m, while a month ago, the two-year-older sister vessel Corinthian Phoenix was sold for $29m.

While prices in dry stay firm although cooling a bit, prices in wet appear to be on the rise. The 2005 Korean-built 160,000 dwt suezmax Seoul Spirit of Teekay Corp, for instance, has widely been reported to have sold to undisclosed interests for $34.5m, while in April, another Korean-built ship, the one-year older, same-sized Aegean Angel, was reported sold for $4m less.
