Four large scale solar projects, with a combined capacity of 133 megawatts (MW), have been energised across the UK.

These projects are expected to provide renewable energy to power more than 38,000 homes and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 40,000 tonnes annually.

The largest of the projects is the Layer Solar Farm in Essex, which has an installed capacity of 49.9MW and includes a newly constructed 132kV substation to connect the generated electricity to the national grid.

The other projects that have been energised include Crouch Solar Farm (23MW), Maldon Wycke Solar Farm (25MW) and Links Solar Farm (35MW).

Roy Bedlow, Chief Executive and Founder of Low Carbon, commented: “The UK just became the first G7 country to stop using coal power, and with more of our projects expected to come online in the coming months, we are looking to play a key role in helping the government deliver its 2030 Clean Power Mission.”
