US Energy policies: your fair weather friend – and nuclear, wind, solar, oil, gas, hydro, all have their place at the energy table.

We need to provide the lowest kWh to everyone while being good stewards of the earth. Nuclear, wind, solar, oil, gas, hydro, all have their place at the energy table.

Energy News Beat Publishers Note: David Ramsden Wood, (or as his friends call him DRW), has a great real-life story as an example of what we call “Balanced Power Diet”. All forms of power and energy production should be used. Each has its own best capabilities. We need to provide the lowest kWh to everyone while being good stewards of the earth. Nuclear, wind, solar, oil, gas, hydro, all have their place at the energy table. Great insight DRW while being fun

Here is a real user story of a Tesla Model X yesterday. The hockey team is playing in Omaha this weekend and a number of families chose to drive including one who has their Model X they bought in August to commute from their home in Vail to Denver 3x per week for practice.

Due to the cold weather, the Tesla range dropped from 350 miles to 175 miles because cold weather impacts battery life. Charging stations were plentiful and took about 30 minutes to charge.

About half way between Denver and Omaha, the heater stopped working and the closest Tesla dealership was in Omaha. Fortunately, the seat heaters were incredibly warm otherwise they tell me they were going to have to abandon the car and get a rental. They arrived in Omaha, cold, and the car is being fixed this weekend.

Is this a trash post on Tesla? No. Is it a single case? Yes. But Tesla has sold roughly 1.6mm vehicles… ever. Toyota does 10mm a year. Tesla is an $800 billion market cap company with $35 billion in revenue and it pulls electricity from the grid – which on cold days like today, mean is all natural gas, nuclear and coal because turbines are literally freezing and the cloud coverage makes solar… well… non-existent.

All forms of energy are required for our lifestyle.
