India issued vesting orders for 10 coal mines

These are projected to generate $19.96m annually.

Coal Minister Shri G Kishan Reddy, has announced vesting orders for ten key coal mines across Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh. This includes one fully explored and nine partially explored mines.

These mines, with a combined reserve of 2,395 million tonnes, are expected to boost the country’s energy security and economic growth. They are projected to generate $19.96m (INR166.36) annually and attract $18m (INR150) in capital investment, creating around 1,352 jobs.

Reddy called on successful bidders to focus on increasing production and cutting imports while emphasizing environmental sustainability. He stressed the need for improving green cover, safety standards, and community welfare, including healthcare, drinking water, and education.

Shri Satish Chandra Dubey, minister of State for Coal, also underscored the need for integrity and sustainable mining practices. Coal Secretary Shri Amrit Lal Meena congratulated the bidders and urged swift operationalisation of the mines, promising full support from the ministry.

The vesting of these mines aligns with the government’s vision of achieving self-reliance in the coal sector, reducing dependency on imports, and ensuring a steady supply of coal to meet the country’s growing energy demands.
