American sportswear giant Nike has contracted French liner CMA CGM to use sustainable biofuel for a part of its maritime transport for a trial 11-month period.
Nike will use sustainable biofuel for the transportation of 36% of its volume with CMA CGM during the trial, claiming it will reduce CO2 emissions by 25,000 tons.
“Collaborating with a key player like Nike and taking this major step towards decarbonisation is an important achievement. We are confident that our success will act as a catalyst, encouraging other carriers and customers to join us on this path to accelerate the transition towards a net zero industry,” commented Olivier Nivoix, an executive vice president at the French line.
