Over 200 homes electrify solar rooftop plan in Mumbai Metropolitan Region

MUMBAI: MSEDCL has received response from 239 residential consumers, including individual and housing societies, who have opted for solar rooftops inMumbai metropolitan regionby getting up to 40% subsidy from Ministry of New &RenewableEnergy. These solar rooftops have come up in parts of Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai, an official said on Saturday .

MSEDCL managing director Vijay Singhal has now directed 243 empanelled agencies for rooftop solar to expedite applications for new installations and make the process easy.

The power utility is now targeting a monthly growth of 100MW to 150 MW solar energy in the grid. The installed capacity of rooftop solar across Maharashtra has crossed 1,000 MW and the total number of consumers for rooftop solar installation across Maharashtra was close to 58,000, sources said.

An official said that applications received by MSEDCL, including those from the national portal, for solar rooftops included 106 consumers who opted for solar photovoltaic panels of above 3KWp while 133 opted for solar panels up to 3 KWp.

Singhal has appealed to power consumers to take benefit of the subsidy scheme. “The subsidy, which is up to 40%, is applicable to all domestic consumers,” he said.

As per the scheme, domestic consumers who opt for a photovoltaic solar panel for 1kWp to 3kWp on rooftop can get 40% subsidy on overall costs.

For those installing above 3kWp to 10 kWp, the Central government subsidy is 20% while for 1kWp to 500 kWp for housing society and resident welfare associations, there is a 20% subsidy of the project cost.
