A consortium consisting of Dutch offshore foundations specialist Sif and Belgian fabrication company Smulders will supply 100 transition pieces for the Bałtyk 2&3 offshore wind farms in Poland.

After the signing of a capacity reservation agreement on July 1, 2024, Equinor and Polenergia-owned joint venture companies leading the development of the Bałtyk 2&3 offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea have now signed a final contract with the consortium.

Bałtyk 2&3 are two separate projects with a planned installed capacity of 720MW each – jointly 1,440MW. The offshore wind farms will be installed in the Polish exclusive economic zone of the Baltic Sea and are subject to the Polish regulatory regime.

The Bałtyk 2 wind farm is located approximately 37 km offshore while the Bałtyk 3 is some 22 km off the Polish coast.

The scope of work for the consortium consists of fabrication of the transition pieces including shop design, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning.

Within the consortium, Sif will manufacture the approximately 30,000-tonne primary steel tubulars, including flanges, from their facility in Roermond.

Smulders will perform the secondary steel scope, coating, electrical system and testing, and commissioning. The secondary steel scope will be produced by the Polish facilities of Smulders.

The final assembly will take place at the yard in Hoboken, Belgium. Manufacturing works are scheduled for 2025.

Equinor and Polenergia received construction permits for both the offshore and onshore parts of the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms in late August.
