French-based engineering and technology company Technip Energies has been awarded a contract for work on an FLNG unit in Africa.

The company said that the contract was for preliminary activities and that it was effective until the end of September. The client was not revealed.

The French firm added that it was a large award, placing it in the €250m to €500m ($292m to $585m) range. The award covers preliminary activities only. Additional order intake is expected to be booked upon full contract award.

“This order intake represents Technip Energies’ portion of a joint venture and will be recorded in the project delivery segment’s backlog in the third quarter of 2025,” the company explained.

Although the client is not revealed, this deal comes only days after Samsung Heavy won an 869.4bn won ($637m) contract for preliminary work on the construction of an Africa-based FLNG unit. The preliminary deal is, like the one Technip Energies one, expected to expire at the end of September.

Industry sources claim that the facility will most likely be deployed at Eni’s Coral Norte project in Mozambique. If finalised, the deal is expected to be worth up to $2.5bn.

Eni already has one FLNG off Mozambique in operation. Coral South FLNG started gas exports to Europe in 2022, and Technip Energies was involved in that project as well.

Apart from Coral South, Technip Energies also worked on the PFLNG Satu in Malaysia and the Prelude FLNG in Australia. These three combined have a total capacity of 8.2m tons per annum.
