With our school systems teaching beliefs and political agendas rather than facts, home-schooling, and our country’s leadership are more important now than ever. We have to look to leaders who view energy, humanity, and raising our children through facts, fiscal responsibility, physics, and their future in decision-making. In 2014, He ran for US Senate in Colorado and is running again.
Well, today, I had the opportunity to visit with Floyd Trujillo, Oil and Gas Veteran and Author. We had a great talk about his book “Dexter’s Adventures” Fossil Fuels In The Classroom. We also talked about his political career and not sitting on the bench. We all have to stand up and fight for our children and country.
Floyd and I even covered the illegal migration we are facing now. We both love immigration, and that is what this country was founded on. The NGOs and the energy security issues by our current administration are worth standing up against.

Floyd Trujillo [00:01:07] Thank you so much for having me here. I just love you. I just love talking about how about the book, about oil and gas, about life in general. Okay. You know, life is good in this country. Again.
Stuart Turley [00:01:16] It is.
Floyd Trujillo [00:01:18] Well, some people don’t think it is good.
Stuart Turley [00:01:20] Oh, no, that’s kind of wears me down a little bit when, when people grump about, energy, when they grump about our great heritage. And you’re a 14th generation. Yeah. Or.
Floyd Trujillo [00:01:35] Correct. Going back to, the year 1613.
Stuart Turley [00:01:39] Wow. Yeah. Tell me about that, because that’s pretty darn cool.
Floyd Trujillo [00:01:43] Well, it’s, you know, I mean, I was born was Vegas, New Mexico. Now, my family settled, during the these, Spanish conquest back in the 1600s over an area of Taos and Santa Fe, New Mexico. Right. So you have all these in. Matter of fact, I’ll even send you a copy of our written family tree. Oh, that’s kind of cool. But what’s funny, though, is, is you look in there and, you know, I came here to Colorado when I was six months old. My first language, Spanish, I couldn’t speak, I spoke broken English. But you know what? When we talk about things, you know, I look at my history and and you go back and, and there’s names in there that, for example, there’s a woman, her name is Hermione. Or they say Tramell, her sister Ignacio. Hermione. Okay. And through the family tree house. Unique is it is it Ignacio? My great aunt. She was married to Charles Best, a best for Spain, and the first governor of the territory of New Mexico. Wow. And then for I was married to Kit Carson. So basically, Kit Carson is my great great uncle through to my to my great great aunt way. So it’s kind of it’s, it’s an interesting, you know, thing to look at, you know, but, you know, we’ve been here for, for a long time. And I said, you know, and when I talk about military service, you know, I’m, I’m a former marine, served, no.
Stuart Turley [00:02:59] I’m going to stop you. Right? I’m gonna stop you right there. Sure you’re not a former marine ever been, I have ever met. And there’s there’s several things in this world. I am about as old as Moses. And you never grump out or go nutty on a marine because he’s got about 17,000 buddies that he can go, hey, I want an airstrike at this address, and you all bond together like you wouldn’t believe, which I think is the coolest thing on the planet.
Floyd Trujillo [00:03:33] You know, I messed up there. Matter of fact, when my wife and I first met, she called me next marine. I said, hold on. I said, he says you can have next wife. You can’t have next marine. October, though I.
Stuart Turley [00:03:44] I’m so sorry for calling out on it, but.
Floyd Trujillo [00:03:46] I scared because I yes, I was marine I was in Marine Corps back in 7377. Oh you so yeah. You know.
Stuart Turley [00:03:55] You I am so proud of you and thank you for your service. And
Floyd Trujillo [00:03:58] thank you.
Stuart Turley [00:04:00] Now, your wife, was she a U.S. citizen or did you meet her overseas or.
Floyd Trujillo [00:04:06] No. Met was she was six. She was six years old when she came to the United States. She immigrated here. She’s six. Her her, sister was 15. And the mother, they were married to, you he was married. She was married to a, a Korean, a Vietnam veteran.
Stuart Turley [00:04:20] Oh, wow.
Floyd Trujillo [00:04:21] And it came here and, you know, you talked to, you know, she’s not because she’s not American. She’s she’s U.S she’s a citizen. She tell you she’s I’m American. All three of them, they’re all registered to vote. And they vote the right direction. Okay. So so we have to make sure that and we talk about people, we make the assumption they see that the the opposition, they use up tools against us, you know, to to divide us. Okay. I have friends that are big Trump fans. Republicans are they’re Spanish. They they came from Mexico. They believe in faith, family and the freedom to pursue the American dream. Exactly. But what happens is they divide us. And they convince people that they’re illegal, okay? I mean, look, U.S. citizens, they have the opportunity to change the direction of this country if we’re given a total point of view anyway.
Stuart Turley [00:05:13] You know what’s what’s. I love immigrants. I absolutely love legal immigrants. Right. And and what I’m really saddened by is the, I’m going to say the Green New Deal from a standpoint that it breaks families down. This past Christmas, I’ve said this. My, I had my in-laws totally went nuts, and I left my families, Christmas time. I just didn’t need to be around them. I don’t I’m not going. I’m a humanitarian. I don’t care what. We need to eliminate all energy poverty around the world. That’s the only way that we can advance as a, human beings and deliver the lowest cost kilowatt per hour. Deliver, and take care of the environment. Well, you gotta not print money in order to do renewable energy or electric vehicles. You’ve got to take care of recycling your solar panels or your wind, farms. And they’re not doing that right now. You’re printing money, so it’s bringing up inflation and that ends family discussions. I’m all about a humanitarian. I, I’m talking to leaders in Africa to try to help bring these conversations together. And, we’re also doing a homeschooling event so that we’re taking our material and starting to give back to folks for that. And that brings up your book. You’ve got a kid’s book that I have got a copy up here. And hold it up here. Show us what it is. Tell us about it
Floyd Trujillo [00:06:58] Right there. Let’s see.
Stuart Turley [00:06:58] It’s fossil fuels in the classroom. The ABC’s of fossil fuels. Dexter’s adventures. Now it’s Dexter, your buddy.
Floyd Trujillo [00:07:06] What was that, a second? Dexter, where are you going? To take a nap under the desk. He. Yes, he’s a King Charles Cavalier.
Stuart Turley [00:07:15] Nice and love. Cavaliers.
Floyd Trujillo [00:07:16] The whole the whole love, for the starter, which was probably two decades ago. You know, I was, I spent 40 years in the old gas industry, and I always had this concept here about 20 years ago about trying to change the narrative. Okay. After 40 years, you know, like, how were the bad guys? For 40 years, we’ve been called down, slammed and humiliated. You know, I’m like, don’t you understand what we do as an industry? So that’s where it started, you know? And this was a three year project where know that we should have a website up this this week up and running to actually go out there and actually get on the list to order books. There’s a challenge I’m going to call it the Million Book Challenge. We try to. And the reason is, is that if you could take a shot, take a shot to the moon, only five books have ever sold 1 million copies. Your first day sales. Well, first day away. Well, first day sales is. Let’s say that I start presales February 1st and I release the book on June 1st. So your presales all count as first day sales? Oh five books, four books. Harry Potter. The fifth book was, spare by Prince, Prince of Prince Harry Kane. No US author or tours picture book has ever been printed in this country. So to to achieve that, I’m challenging the industry and the country to sign up for a million book challenge.
Stuart Turley [00:08:34] No way.
Floyd Trujillo [00:08:36] So so that’s it’s you know what? You gotta take a shot. Now, you realize in this country, we have 11 million U.S. oil and gas workers, according to API. So it should be an easy feat if I can get 10% of those folks to China to get the book.
Stuart Turley [00:08:51] I think we ought to also, fold in to, kind of like our buddy, Doug Sandridge, and his, his initiatives for oil and gas executives, for nuclear, to band together. And let’s take a challenge like he did and see what we can do. On getting companies to buy these for their employees. How fun would that be?
Floyd Trujillo [00:09:17] It’s it’s fun. It’s the challenge that I find with that, I’m finding, is that this day movement within the companies prevents it from happening. I’m finding more with with a rank and file that like this. There’s a large producer out east, and, sent it to their attorney who’s the vice president. He loved the book. That’s right. Yeah. He had a ranch to corporate. So a couple days later, he sends me an email, said manual. We can’t do it because he sent me three emails from the folks that shut it down. He says, because it’s too biased to oil and gas. I’m like, that that’s the point we’re trying to promote on gas, you know. And and see, what’s funny is that where LinkedIn comes into play, you can get those names. See their history. The three folks that knocked about were part of the DEI movement within the country. So trying to get past that from a corporate standpoint. This will have to do.
Stuart Turley [00:10:10] Wow. So I didn’t even think of that.
Floyd Trujillo [00:10:11] But individuals like you love it.
Stuart Turley [00:10:13] But, you know, Floyd, you’re trying to help do with the the oil and gas industry has not done a good job of and that is bragging about the goodness, that has done and you know, the even the EIA has said that we’ve reduced our carbon footprint by 22% last year, due to the natural gas, power plants. Right. Not because of any other reason. Yes, we did close some coal plants, but it had to be replaced with natural gas. So natural gas is the single cleanest, abundant source out there. That’s low cost. Besides nuclear, I’m in
Floyd Trujillo [00:11:00] To liable too. You know.
Stuart Turley [00:11:01] Yes,.
Floyd Trujillo [00:11:02] Talk about. EIA, let me share some with you that we don’t see other. And okay, this is something that needs to we got to share this. Can you see that or not?
Stuart Turley [00:11:11] Yep. U.S. Primary Energy Consumption by source in 2022. Yep.
Floyd Trujillo [00:11:17] And when you look at when we talk about solar and wind. In this country when producers 3.8% more energy.
Stuart Turley [00:11:26] Depends on who you’re talking to. They say about 90.
Floyd Trujillo [00:11:30] You’re right. Wind is 1.85%. Okay. What’s ironic is that wood produces 2 or 2% more than than than solar does. Okay, so.
Stuart Turley [00:11:40] I didn’t realize that was that movie.
Floyd Trujillo [00:11:42] It’s there. It’s it’s there. But again, we have to educate. I’ll tell folks this. You know what? Whatever position you take that, that’s fine. You know. But but at least do your research and understand what you’re talking about. Right. So there’s, you know, take a position but understand it.
Stuart Turley [00:11:58] You know, and and that’s one of the things about being a podcast host is I never thought that I would graduate from, school in 77 and sit here and be a podcast host and really enjoy it. My day job is running my company. But I do this as a passion because I get to talk to everybody around the world.
Floyd Trujillo [00:12:19] And you have fun.
Stuart Turley [00:12:19] To do what?
Floyd Trujillo [00:12:21] You have fun.
Stuart Turley [00:12:22] Oh, this. I get to meet so many cool people and have great discussions. But I learn a lot in in food. The invitation is there for no matter what kind of energy you feel. I want to know about energy. I want. I’ve interviewed people about wind farms. I’ve interviewed some great people about battery storage. Prior battery out of Norway, the only one, and then another one out of, Washington, DC with, Tim. And they were recyclable battery technology. That’s my big hot button. Let’s get it where it’s recyclable and good for the environment. So if we can all get along and not be like my family members that I had to leave, that we need to talk. Let’s work through these thing.
Floyd Trujillo [00:13:16] The way you like, the way you solve solve the problems. Like even going right. Okay. You need a divided government, okay? Because this way a divided government, okay. Not just all Republicans, all Democrats. In doing that, you find the the best solutions to solve things.
Stuart Turley [00:13:32] I agree, you know, it was in Oklahoma years ago. Floyd I don’t know how Colorado was my both my kids were born there when we were up there. And I love Colorado. But in the old days when I was really working a lot with schools, with government and, servers and computers, you could not tell the difference between a Republican and a Democrat in Oklahoma. Right. They had one concern. Let’s help the schools. Let’s help, get our students more. Let’s help get new jobs. Let’s I mean, it was great running around the the halls of the Senate in Oklahoma. Back then. There was no difference. It was about Oklahoma first. Right. Where did all that go?
Floyd Trujillo [00:14:20] I don’t know, I think I think what happens is, is that the consultants on each side, they go to hard left, hard right. That’s why the native model okay. So it divides us is all it does. You know, it’s what happens as in Colorado back in 80, 2018. They try to pass is called proposition 112 to the setback to 500ft for the, for drilling. And the industry spent good money on it and they defeated it 85% to 45%. The problem is, is that is that we lost all the elections. There’s not a single power that the state holds in Colorado. They’re all they’re all held by anti-woman gas folks. So finally, the so when the new governor took over, even though we said no, he signed into law, it was a proposition 181. So, yeah, well, when you when you have full control on either side, you, you have you have no voice. And that’s problem we have in Colorado right now.
Stuart Turley [00:15:17] Which is very sad. It’s kind of like poor old California. The leadership in California are destroying the price of energy. And, I’ve been digging up some information on that, and we have PDC, get their first wells approved under that, Senate bill under that, because the regulatory issues are so bad that we figured out a way to automate the process and actually help go through and fill out how to do that, because you had to, go get your ESG implementation and then go around to each house and find out how many, English speaking or Spanish speaking or had to go through all the block groups. You can’t drill between X number of feet of a, building. And if you do, you have to have this. So we were able to pull in all the census data and everything else, and we were able to get finally the, the, permitting process going again. So it’s nice to be a nerd where you can help that get done. So, the more the legislation through regulatory process is going on right now, Floyd is just despicable in California. Colorado is on the way becoming California.
Floyd Trujillo [00:16:43] We are well, things are always regulations or does as to the bottom line of energy, that’s all of that. Yes. It’s funny. California, they’re trying to shut down the oil and gas industry. But their usage of oil is not going down as going up. Do now is important oil from Venezuela and other countries that don’t kind of like us, you know.
Stuart Turley [00:17:03] it’s even worse than that. Floyd I I’m writing a thing going on that our buddy Governor Newsom here, you have better hair than him. I’m going to just for a podcast, listeners, you’re going to have to go take a look at it. Floyd. I’ve got mine’s flesh colored, and, you look so much better than our buddy Newsom.
Floyd Trujillo [00:17:22] Thank you, sir. I’ll take that as a different problem. Thank you so much.
Stuart Turley [00:17:25] It is a huge compliment. Yes, I would, I would have dinner with you in any moment. Him? Not so much. But when we’re sitting here and thinking. Floyd, they are shutting down their refineries, and so they’re cutting a deal with China. I’m, I’m working on getting the paperwork on this because it’s it’s almost done. China has increased their refining capacity a million barrels per day. Yes. We’re, we’re already buying 70% of the oil that is created in the rainforest by Chinese companies. California is already buying it. So that’s going to the refineries that are being shut down. Why do you think this was in California as right after that they made some more announcements that were coming through, and I’ve got some sources I’m working on. If it was you heard it here. Second, that they’re buying their refined products from China that will be coming around the corner. It’s probably going to be announced before too long. So what you’re seeing is a green movement destroying the rainforests, destroying and traveling all the way over to China because, you know, they import from Russia, they import from Venezuela, they import from wherever they Iran, Iraq and and so then they refine it there. They don’t have the regulatory, issues. And it’s not ESG friendly. And then they’re going to pump it across the pond into tankers. And then they’re going to use it in California. Tell me you’re going to be paying $30 a gallon here before too long.
Floyd Trujillo [00:19:10] For you to be there. Absolutely. But you know what, though? This goes back. I remember this goes back to an Obama was first elected. Okay, okay. And and, his, his, secretary was I think Chinese child or something like that. Yeah. And he said that he wanted the price of gasoline in this country, United States, to be as high as your 6 or $7 a gallon. Right? Reason was because green energy cannot compete when the price of gasoline is so low. You need a high priced gasoline for for it to compete. So this goes back to 2008 will not be problems like. So it goes back from that you know. But it’s so obvious what they want to do. And somehow and again it all comes out of education period. Whether it’s educating kids on a kid’s book on what these are made out of to legislate it, you know, it’s it’s all about education and how we have this country. Is that the the information by the mainstream media is so deceptive, you know, and that’s why you have to go. You have a lot of podcasts like yourself and other sources of information to get the truth.
Stuart Turley [00:20:15] And I think that’s one of the few reasons, my humor is not exactly well known. Well, I’m a legend in my own mind. But, I think that’s why there’s so many other great podcasts that are out there. There’s the, you know, the JP Warren’s of the world. There’s the, Robert Bryce’s of the world, there’s David Blackmon, there’s all of these great podcast Art Trevino. And they’re great punk. I think people are yearning for this in Floyd. Aren’t you seeing that all the reports that the mainstream media is going broke and they’re laying lots of people off?
Floyd Trujillo [00:20:54] Absolutely. Yep. There’s people don’t want to hear that stuff anymore. No.
Stuart Turley [00:20:59] I’d rather listen to somebody, about being humanitarian. And, I love Tucker Carlson and and and X, we got to get, your story out there on X as well. I just dropped a podcast, Floyd, yesterday, and I had 100,000 downloads on a Sunday on X. I’m like, what? Wow. Go figure that out. So, you know, people want people are starving for information. And I’m so thrilled that you’ve taken your passion up Floyd.
Floyd Trujillo [00:21:38] We’re going to will continue. Okay. So this is, this has been a dream of mine for the last three years. I’ve put everything into it and has been there all along beside me as we do the book, and we hope to get this thing done and go out there and do a. And of course, we’re going to go a political route to this this week when we pursue a something else to try to help this the state in this country.

Floyd Trujillo [00:23:32] You you have the expertise there, buddy. You know, so we’ll try. We’ll figure it out, you know? So.
Stuart Turley [00:23:38] You know, I would look much better in a Dexter Mc mask.
Floyd Trujillo [00:23:41] Oh, you. You know, Dexter, he’s a cool guy. You you’ll like. And the problem is, he’s such a habit. Soulsby loved his own, you know.
Stuart Turley [00:23:50] Looking. Call Kevin later. They. They are cool dogs. They don’t get caught frisbees very much there, though.
Floyd Trujillo [00:24:00] No, they don’t. You. He likes to chase rabbits. Never catches them. Right. Which is to chase frisbees. He’s he’s more of a cruel kind of guy, you know? And trees. Rabbits.
Stuart Turley [00:24:09] My my little Australian shepherd is, she is a, wonderful Frisbee dog. She’s a little old now, but, she also chased off, a bear at my place, so, she’s fearless. I think a King Cavalier. She’s yours is chased off, too.
Floyd Trujillo [00:24:29] We just went off with a cabin here when I was about a year and a half old with the cabin. I went outside to two hours. Noise. Yeah. And it’s. It’s still dark. And there’s a there’s a step that comes up about three feet from the door, wraparound deck. So we’re going to have to have a leash as I go out there. The bear. The bear had just put his paw on the deck to come up there about two feet away. The bear kind of looks at him and there’s a being, a chase. The bear turns and runs. No way. Like. That just to just chases stuff. Okay. Dogs will do that, you know? But, we have a lot of fun up here. You know, we were. If you’re ever up here in Roxborough Park, we’re. That’s out or not, but look up Arrowhead Golf Golf Club in Colorado.
Stuart Turley [00:25:14] Oh, and I know it just.
Floyd Trujillo [00:25:15] It is beautiful up here. We just love it, you know.
Stuart Turley [00:25:17] So it is very pretty. I would move back in a heartbeat, but all the people coming from California have changed the political situation out there. So
Floyd Trujillo [00:25:26] It has. But here’s the. But I’ve told you or not gonna take a run for for Congress here coming up.
Stuart Turley [00:25:33] Okay, great. How can we help you there?
Floyd Trujillo [00:25:36] We’ll we’ll get you. We’ll get you, Lanny. Pace yourself. Okay, well, see, here’s the thing. Is that we talk about California’s coming. Yes, I agree. Right. And years ago I agree. Okay. Because ten years ago a California would sell his house. Come over here, Colorado, spend a million bucks cash for a house out of 3 million in the back. Okay?
Stuart Turley [00:25:56] Right.
Floyd Trujillo [00:25:57] The thing is, that’s change the last two years. Okay? The last two years, folks in California. Only because of policy reasons. Okay. So they come here and they say, AC, those are the ones you want to get on board because they’re in for the policy reasons, not because they have money to buy a house and they tell us what to do. Right. So from that standpoint, as Republicans, you can’t shun them. Those guys gotta get them on board. In Colorado, we have 40% independence and 21% on both sides. Republican. Democrat. But you have to find it’s all about numbers on this. I got more than you do. You win the race. A problem we have in this state anyway. Republican party, the fight with each other. You have the freedom group. You have the Liberty group. You have the rhinos and this old my guys. And you wonder why we don’t have any any power in the state. You’ve got to come together and I’m gonna to pursue another angle there, which is up again. I go back 100 years and we have. I spoke at a meeting here Douglas County, ten years ago. I said the saving grace of this nation will be that once you guys realize there’s a group out there this year saying you guys are faith, family have pushed the American dream. Okay. You call them Hispanics. I call Americans of Hispanic Heritage. I said that group in the state, they have the lowest voter participation rate and they’re almost 23% of the state. Wow. You get that behind you. The state is yours, but you can’t do it if you don’t engage the people and share with the values. We share the same values. We don’t talk to each other. That’s a change of state.
Stuart Turley [00:27:34] You just. You said a few things that just resonated huge. The Hispanic, culture is phenomenal with the mamas. When I was working with the school districts, you did not want to have the Hispanic mom come up to that school because she was dead serious. And my brother, there was a difference between the Hispanic folks that came to the emergency room. He was an emergency room doctor, the aunts, uncles, the kids, the the neighbors. If there was a Hispanic family member hurt, they flooded the E.R. trying to be around that. That person in the family unit is strong. And in other cultures in the United States, it’s not. And you’ll see the mom there with the child. And it’s really sad. So I love legal immigration.
Floyd Trujillo [00:28:28] Absolutely. And like I.
Stuart Turley [00:28:29] Dallas, I am flat the minority in my neighborhood and I love it. Absolutely have some of the greatest. My wife and I love being the, oddball out. And we we have great, great neighbors.
Floyd Trujillo [00:28:44] Oh, that’s. I mean, look, look at me. Hispanic guy. Right? West Koreans, it’s like the dynamic, you know? But again, you know, what I’m talking about are legal U.S. citizens. Again, not illegal. I mean, the illegal immigration that’s going on right now is destroying this country from all, from different sides. You got to put a stop. Matter of fact, you you talk to Hispanic citizens, they’re like, we don’t want this here. Doesn’t destroy us. So so there’s a narrative that the other side says that we all want them. You know what? We do want you here, but legally, don’t jump in for a long period.
Stuart Turley [00:29:20] It just makes me airsick. Because we could do so much more as humanitarians, as Americans. And then what is going on? It’s a power play, and we as Americans need to shine. And I believe, truly, Floyd, that good will win. I think the road may be a little ugly. And I am so proud of you to get to know you. Well, thank you for that. You are running for Congress in the Senate. And and it is the Senate, right?
Floyd Trujillo [00:29:51] No, I ran for Senate ten years ago.
Stuart Turley [00:29:54] Oh, okay. So,.

Stuart Turley [00:29:59] Oh. I’ve been able to interview several really neat House members. And, I have thoroughly enjoyed my interviews with them. Ogles and, Zach, they were great guys. Loved visiting with him. I’ve got about the the Freedom Coalition. I’ve got a bunch of them that, bring in, and I have an offer. Any politician that is Democrat or Republican, I want to visit with you. I’m hoping I get to interview the governor of Texas and Oklahoma.

Stuart Turley [00:30:34] Wednesday. So, that’d be kind of fun. I’m disappointed in Langford. Where did that come from? Out of Oklahoma, in the Senate. He’s negotiating. Negotiating the deal that was just released.
Floyd Trujillo [00:30:49] Is that with immigration?
Stuart Turley [00:30:50] Yeah.
Floyd Trujillo [00:30:51] It’s like the thing is it. You know, if you think about it. Okay. This has been a problem for for decades ago. And you know what the bottom line is really? Neither side wants to resolve it. Okay. No, no, no. The power play is by the Democrats here. They bring him in and they say, well, we gotta give him amnesty. The Democrats are looking for this as a power play. Republicans, as much as they talk with what they do, supporting the, low wages for businesses in the nation. Okay. So until you until you resolve that and call people out for what it is, that will change. Well, it’s like says you, we okay, we gotta change it. And by we, it means we have to get on on these guys butts and say enough is enough. It’s been it’s been 50 years. Because November, you know what? If you want to resolve immigration, you always talk about comprehensive immigration reform and what that is, right? What you start is by by enforcing the laws. That’s worse.
Stuart Turley [00:31:50] Well, I want to have you back and let’s talk, platform let’s talk more political. This, I think, was the fantastic discussion as to get our listeners, kind of teed up for, you and, we’ll have you back and we’re going to go through some of that. But let’s get fossil fuels in the classroom with Dexter’s adventures. We’re gonna get that bad dog out there. I am so proud of you for everything that you’re doing in there.
