SJVN awards 1,000-MW solar project to Tata Power in Rajasthan

The firm added that the project is worth about Rs 5,500 crore

New Delhi: State-ownedSJVNon Wednesday said it has issued a Letter of Award for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of 1,000 MWsolar projecttoTata Power Solarin Bikaner, Rajasthan.

According to the official press release, the project is worth about Rs 5,500 crore and is India’s biggest solar EPC contract that has been awarded till date.

It added that the project will generate 2,454 million units (MU) of electricity in the first year and about 56,838 MU over a period of 25 years.

“This project further consolidates our commitment towards achieving the government’s target of 500 GW non-fossil energy capacity by 2030. The recent securing of new solar projects is also paving the way for achieving our firm’s vision of 5,000 MW by 2023, 25,000 MW by 2030 and 50,000 MW by 2040,” saidNand Lal Sharma, chairman and managing director, SJVN.

The release added that the commissioning of this project is expected to reduce about 27,85,077 tonnes of carbon emission in 25 years and is set to be commissioned by May 2024.

The scope of this contract includes end-to-end delivery of the commissioned solar plant to SJVN including arrangement of land on outright purchase basis, power evacuation system up to the ISTS substation and operation and maintenance of the solar plant for three years, the company added in the release.

The 1,000 MW solar power project was secured by SJVN through a competitive bidding process under the CPSE Scheme of the government.
