UK plans ban on new petrol motorcycle sales from 2040

UK

The UK Government is set to announce plans to prohibit the sale of new petrol motorcycles, including scooters and higher-powered variants, from 2040 as part of its commitment to achieving net zero emissions.

According to the Telegraph, this move, aimed at reducing carbon dioxide emissions from transportation, will impact all vehicles classified as “L3” and above.

Earlier sales restrictions will also come into effect, with new petrol-fuelled mopeds facing a ban from 2030.

The decision comes amidst a growing market for electric mopeds, which accounted for approximately half of UK moped registrations last year.
