Cheniere Energy Inc. (LNG) on Wednesday reported a fourth-quarter loss of $194 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

The Houston-based company said it had a loss of 77 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 84 cents per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 79 cents per share.

The natural gas company posted revenue of $2.79 billion in the period.

For the year, the company reported a loss of $85 million, or 34 cents per share, swinging to a loss in the period. Revenue was reported as $9.36 billion.

Cheniere Energy shares have climbed 16% since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased 34% in the last 12 months.
