The company’s biogas plants have a capacity to treat 10 tonnes of waste per day and produce 58,189 cubic metres of biogas which is equivalent to about 25,000 kg of LPG gas cylinder. It has diverted 90 % of mixed waste from landfills in 2023 across its India locations pursuing its target of achieving zero waste to landfill by 2030.
About a third of the company’s engagements include climate change solutions, according to the report. While Infosys recycles 100% of its wastewater at its campuses, 39 lakes across its campuses hold 426 million litres of rainwater storage capacity.
Even as Infosys has consistently been making investments in clean energy power installations, it acknowledges there are unavoidable emissions due to factors such as business travel and employee commute that have to be offset to achieve carbon neutrality.
As for the initiatives on the social front, the company said it has touched 8.5 million people through its digital skilling initiatives and empowered about 114 million lives through its “tech for good” programmes in e-governance, healthcare, and education.
The company, its chief financial officer Nilanjan Roy said in the ESG report, is making steady progress towards achieving its goal of 45% women in the organisation by 2030. With 135,355 women employees at the end of 2022-23, they make up 39.4% of the workforce.
Infosys, which began its operations in a small apartment office in Pune in 1981, has offices across six continents.
