Finland to open first LNG terminal

LNG

Finland’s first floating terminal for liquefied natural gas (LNG) will be placed on the country’s southern coast at the port of Inkoo, some 60 kilometres west of Helsinki, Gasgrid Finland, a state-owned company and transmission system operator, announced on Thursday (9 June).

Gasgrid Finland is leasing the 291 metres long and 43 metres wide LNG terminal vessel from Excelerate Energy Inc. for ten years.

The LNG terminal, in close proximity to the Balticconnector pipeline between Finland and Estonia, should be available next winter and its capacity is meant to cover the gas needs of both Finland and Estonia.

Gasgrid Finland and the Estonian electricity and gas transmission system operator Elering are also developing a potential LNG terminal site in Estonia.
