It is in this context that the prefect of Deux-Sèvres organized a video-conference on Friday, September 16. It will be followed by a second face-to-face consultation on Tuesday 20 September. The Regional Directorate for the Environment, Development and Housing of Nouvelle-Aquitaine (DREAL) presented a mapping project specifying that 10% of the territory of Nouvelle-Aquitaine is conducive to the reception of new wind turbines.Yves Attou, President of the Association of Rural Mayors of Deux-Sèvres (AMR79) said he had organized a consultation of rural mayors on the basis of the mapping provided by the Departmental Directorate of Territories (DDT). The survey reveals the following:– Overall, rural mayors do not dispute that the transition requires in particular the development of a decarbonized energy mix. But, some are very reserved about the economic model of wind policy. Local elected officials are annoyed by the aggressive commercial methods of some project leaders, whose motivation is more economic than ecological.– The Department of Deux-Sèvres has achieved or even far exceeded the government’s objectives. By being over-endowed, he is among the best students at the national and regional level.– Rural mayors are very unhappy that prefectural authorizations ignore the unfavorable opinions of the host and neighboring municipal councils.– Finally, the saturation of wind turbines weakens the promotion policy initiated by the Departmental Council in favor of “green tourism”. The attractiveness of the Deux-Sèvres is linked, in large part, to its 18 sensitive natural areas, its Natura 2000 sites, its Marais Poitevin Regional Natural Park and the Gâtine-Poitevine Regional Natural Park project. For these reasons, Yves Attou told the prefect that it would now be reasonable to stop all new wind turbine installations in Deux-Sèvres and to favor other renewable energies such as photovoltaics, methanization and others.18,286 signatures
