Magnets found in so many everyday items like cell phones could soon come from the ground in Oklahoma.

A company is about to spend $100 million to build a facility in Stillwater.

Gov. Kevin Stitt on Thursday said the investment will mean more jobs and less dependence on other countries.

Stitt said the facility will help the state remain a leader in domestic energy production and stop relying on other countries for the resources.

“This is truly a once in a generation announcement or our city and our state, and the country,” he said.

The first rare earth metal manufacturing facility in the country will be in Stillwater.

“This is a win for Stillwater and this is a win for Oklahoma,” Stillwater Mayor Will Joyce said.
